I want to move the Microsoft Reserved Partition Partition 3 to a new offset MBhow would I go about doing this, obviously without messing anything up? If there is a way to just move the Reserved partition, that would be better. Either way would work, but I need to know how to do this safely, so when I'm done Windows will boot just fine and be able to access the Reserved partition for whatever it's needed for. Assuming that you want to reprocess all the messages currently stored on your brokers and you set auto. After restarting, your consumers should start from the beginning.
Then you can manually set the offsets for each partition for your consumers to the smallest currently available offset. Vedant Jain Very interesting article. And usefull. That's pretty useful, but only if you're storing the offsets in Zookeeper. Can someone please update this article with instructions for how to reset offsets when they are stored in Kafka?

It was working fine and was able to fetch the messages but all of sudden we faced following issue. I searched for this issue on internet and found that this issue occurs when there is no stored offset for a partition and no defined offset reset policy.
But the thing which I don't understand is how this occurred all of a sudden and not when the consumer was started. Have you encountered this exception before? Any recommendation on how to resolve it? I have a huge forum post on it here, but I didn't specifically note that exception in it. I hit that problem many times, and the errors propagated out of Spark were a little different each time unfortunately.ETL Is Dead, Long Live Streams: real-time streams w/ Apache Kafka
Often this would be after billions and billions of messages, so the lost partitions would be so behind that they would never catch up to the rest. I suspect its the same issue as yours, but maybe spark causes it to keep working badly when it happens. I never found a solution and MapR didn't manage to replicate the issue in a support case after all, it does some times take literally weeks to reproduce with billions of messages a day, can't really expect it to be reproducible.
The forum post I noted has my workaround with is admittedly painfully long but seems to be holding up well in production code. No, we encountered this issue only once in our test setup.
Services were restarted due to upgrade and everything was working properly. On more investigation, we found that MapR service ticket was expired when this issue occurred. Just before service restart, one of the team member generated new service ticket and replaced it on all the services.
So I think service ticket expiry was the issue here but then exception thrown should have been related to it, right? We use a long-duration ticket to avoid exactly this, so I havent seen it in a Java app. That one is valid for just a week by default unless its overridden. When that used to expire, the errors often varied and did not mention auth sometimes the app would hang, so we coded it to detect lack of progress and shut down.
Spark tries to rerun on failure though and the new execution would reveal the auth issue as it was freshly trying to authenticate with everything. So, Im guessing your situation is similar, minus the restart? We opened a support case and we will communicate you by case ''. Skip to Navigation Skip to Main Content. Toggle SideBar. MapR Community. The above command doesnt accept partition, and resets for all partitions. How can i reset only specific partition. To change offset only for a particular partition, you have to pass with --topic flag, topic name and partition number that you would like to modify. In reset-offsets case, partitions can be specified using this format: topic,1,2where 0,1,2 are the partition to be included in the process.
Reset-offsets also supports multiple topic inputs. Learn more. Kafka : Reset offset of a specific partition of topic Ask Question. Asked 1 year, 7 months ago. Active 1 year, 7 months ago. Viewed 5k times. Command which worked for all partitions kafka-consumer-groups.

To maximize disk performance for SQL Server, I've always been told that the drive's partition offset must be set to 32K and the allocation unit size set to 64K for partitions that hold data and 8K for partitions that hold logs.
How do I find out the allocation unit size and partition offset for my drives? How a disk is prepared does make a difference for performance. This is true of directly attached storage and SAN storage as well.
Windows hasn't always helped. Before Windowsdisks were partitioned and aligned by default to make use of every possible byte, a holdover from the 's and 90's. Until recently most disks have had byte physical sectors. Windows starts by creating partitions at the next sector, It uses the last byte sector in the first 32K and whatever it takes, to complete the allocation unit size requested when the drive is formatted.
Of course, this description is very brief and what happens under the hood depends on the exact combination of controller, drives and RAID configuration as well as disk prep. The ultimate answer to optimizing drive performance is to benchmark the drives under a load similar to the way SQL Server will use the drives. There are several tools available to do this sort of benchmarking.
IOMeter, which was written by Intel, but is now open source, is another free alternative. Before the benchmarking can begin you have to know the partition offset and allocation unit size of the drive.
Viewing and Resetting Consumer Group Offsets
Windows doesn't make it easy to find either of these items of information, but they can be found with command line tools which are covered below. The allocation unit is the smallest amount of space that a file can consume and space conscious IT techs will sometimes use the smallest possible size to get the most files on the disks.
However, when working with SQL Server the number of files is very small so this should not be a consideration. The allocation unit size can be located using the fsutil command that is built into Windows.
It has many sub-commands, each returning a specialized set of information. To get the allocation unit size, use the "fsinfo ntfsinfo" sub command as depicted in the screen shot below, which was taken from a drive that I was preparing.
The red arrow points to the "Bytes Per Cluster", which is the allocation unit size. In this case the default of Unfortunately, DISKPART isn't the best tool to retrieve the partition offset, because it rounds the offset up to the nearest kilobyte giving a misleading answer.GitHub is home to over 50 million developers working together to host and review code, manage projects, and build software together.
